Wire Hanger Art

To the untrained eye, wire hangers are just wire hangers. But to an artist who works with found objects, the
wire hanger can be used to create memorable art. From unique, yet comfortable chairs to full size gorillas, wire hangers have been used to create what most people would deem to be unimaginable. All it takes is a bit of creativity, free time, and some tools and you, too, could create some art for your home, garden, or office space.

Necessary Tools

In order to make useful or decorative art pieces, you will need a few different tools. The basic tools include wire cutters, pliers, and a simple soldering iron. Depending on what you do with the hangers, you might need to buy more specialized tools, especially if you are planning on doing a lot of twisting and bending.

Create Light Fixtures

Hangers can be used to create unusual lamps. If you can gather at least 50 hangers, you can arrange them into a circular shape, attach a light bulb and electricity kit and you can easily make a hanging light fixture or a standing lamp. Guests will have to look a few times to see what you used to make your lamp. The light will reflect nicely off of the wire sheen and will create a soft ambiance.

Stacked Sculptures

Some artists create unimaginable sculptures with hangers. Some of the sculptures are full size animals, heads, or other objects. Many times, the hangers are left as is without any clipping or soldering. They usually use the original curves and handles, stacking them and turning them into the shapes that will eventually turn into a recognizable shape. You will need hundreds, if not thousands of wire hangers to create a sculpture.

Single Hanger Sculpture

While some artists prefer to create three-dimensional sculptures, there are others who prefer to make pieces of art using just one hanger. With a set of pliers and a few forms, you can create interesting shapes that would look great on the wall, hanging from planters, or decorating an outdoor space. Your hanger sculptures can be made to look like people, animals, palm trees, air planes, cars, or anything else that you can imagine and create with simple tools.

Hangers and Hosiery

Kids who have taken art classes might have made wire hanger and hosiery art. With at least one wire hanger, you can bend it into abstract shapes, then cover the shape with hosiery and then spray paint it. Some artists use wire hangers to make floral arrangements, too. You can also use the wire hangers and nylons to create lampshades with a special ambiance.

Wire hangers can be used for other artistic project. They can be used for artistic mobiles, too. Since they are already well balanced, you will just need to be sure that you have attractive and interesting things to hang to create the mobile. Some artists use hangers on wire frame chairs in place of woven materials. If you have a simple form for the left and right sides of a chair, you can connect them with hangers and create a flexible back. They can also be used to create wave-like banners that can add interest to a ceiling or can be made into a floor to ceiling curtain in a modern home.

Wire Hangers No More

Wire hangers might be really inexpensive, but they do not do anything for clothes. When you use wire hangers, the shoulders of your clothing get stretched out of shape. At Mawahangers.com, we sell affordable
hangers that are designed to keep your clothes in the proper shape.  Fortunately, wire hangers are extremely useful tools outside of the closet. Don’t throw away your wire hangers; you can help your clothes and the environment by using Mawa Hangers in your closet and using your wire hangers as handy household tools.

Safe Painting

When it comes time to paint your house, a wire hanger can keep you safe. With wire cutters and pliers, you simply need to trim your hangers into a useful shape to hang your paint can from the ladder. When you twist the hanger around the paint can handle, you can safely climb up and down the ladder and paint without having to hold on to the can while you paint.

Reaching Tool

If you have ever lost something under your king size bed or behind your refrigerator, you know how difficult it is to reach those lost items. If you have a wire hanger nearby, stretch it out and use the hook to reach for the object. Keep the stretched hanger in your closet for those days when you need to lengthen your reach.

Bubble Wand

Little kids love to play with bubbles and the bubbles can get expensive. Wire coat hangers make great bubble wands and they can be bent and twisted into so many shapes, so your kids can create huge bubbles in unique shapes. The hanger handle becomes the holder and you just need a big bucket full of bubble fluid (which can easily be made from dish soap and water. A little food coloring can make the bubbles even more fun.

Unclogging Tool

When your vacuum cleaner gets clogged, a wire hanger can help clean it out. You can also turn your wire hangers into tools to remove clogs from sinks and toilets, too. The flexibility of the wire hanger makes it a handy tool to remove lint from your dryer vents. The only thing that you need to do is straighten the hanger and add a little hook at the end and you will be able to dig out the problems.

Fabric Fixer

If you have ever lost a drawstring, you can use a hanger to fish that out, too. Wire hangers fit nicely between fabric, so you can also use them to make wings for a butterfly costume or to make bunny ears, too. If you need to make a hoop skirt, wire hangers will keep the shape and they are heavy enough to keep the skirt hanging and swinging.

Object Hanger

While you are using your Mawa Hangers for your clothes, you can use your wire hangers for objects that do not need hang on a high quality hanger. Extension cords hang nicely on wire hangers, especially if the hangers are made of a heavier wire. You can also hang ribbon rolls and tape rolls from the hanger, but you will need to create a way to open the hanger and clip it shut.

Playing the Closet

Too many parents complain about their children spending too much time playing with video games and watching television. When you have had enough of your child spending time in front of a screen, then it is time to encourage your children to have some make-believe time. Make believe activities can happen all over the house, but playing in the closet is a great place for kids to unleash their inner creativity.

Create a Fort in the Closet

Children love to create forts and the closet is a great place to set up a fort. Depending on the size of the closet, kids can turn the closet into a fun place to hide and hang out. Kids can use blankets to make the closet fort exactly what they want it to be. They can use shoe boxes for treasure chests and if you let them bring in toys, they can really have fun in the closet.

Make-Believe Playtime

Closets can turn into houses for Barbie dolls or parking garages for cars. If your child has a closet to use for play, you will be pleasantly surprised at what he or she can come up with when you give them the freedom to play creatively. If your closet has built-in shelves, those shelves can become landing pads for flying stuffed animals or rooms for those Barbie dolls. Your closet could even become a make-believe store as your child tries out running his or her own pretend grocery store.

Small Spaces are Fun for Kids

Children often enjoy having small spaces to create their make-believe world. That small space then can be easily transformed into a creative location for play. It does not matter if the closet is a walk-in with enough room to park a car, or if the closet is a typical coat closet with bi-fold doors, children can make use of a variety of small spaces. Kids will have fun playing in a closet whether the closet is completely empty or if there are coats hanging from the racks. However, if you have a closet that you can leave relatively empty, your child will have more room to play and you will have fewer worries about things falling onto your child.

Decorate the Walls

Something else that can be fun for kids is to let them decorate the interior walls of the closet. Since closet walls are covered by doors, the walls are often unseen. If you have kids who love to color on the walls, why not let your kids color on the inside of their closet walls? You will need to be very clear about the space that you give them, so that they do not take their artwork outside of the walls. Closets can be more than just boring white walls.

Remove the Doors

Another way to make closet play fun is to remove the doors. This way, you do not have to worry about your child getting stuck if the doors close and you can also see your child at play. Removing the doors from the closet can also help children who fear that monsters live there; because without doors, there is nowhere to hide.

Decorate Your Closet: Away with the Boring

White walls, boring doors, random hangers: closets can be the most unattractive spaces in home. There is no reason to keep closets looking boring and utilitarian. Closets are blank canvases that are practically begging to be decorated and since no one can really see what is on the walls inside of the closet, you can experiment in a variety of different ways.

Coordinating Hangers Look Great

One of the first ways that closets can be personalized is with attractive closet accessories. Matching hangers give closets a clean look that makes it easier to add color and style. If you have all chrome hangers, you create a sleek look, or a look modern natural look with dark woods. Colorful hangers look great with brightly colored walls – why not add as much color as you can in a small space where you can be creative without any worry of what other people think. Our hangers at MawaHangers.com is a great place to begin when you decide to decorate your closets.

Hang Paper Products as Decoration

Closets can also be a space that allows you to store puzzles, photos, maps, and other flat paper products. Families that do puzzles, but have nowhere to display them can display them on the walls of their closets. Once the puzzle pieces are glued together, it is easy to glue them to the walls. You and your family will be able to remember the hard work that you did as a family putting the puzzles together. You can also put up maps as closet wall paper and then keep track of where you went by adding star stickers or writing memories on the maps. If you have photographs lying around that are not quite good enough for the albums, but you do not want to throw them away, closet walls are good places to create family collages.

Fabric Softens the Look

Another fun way to decorate your closets is with fabric. If you do not like the permanence of paint or gluing paper to the walls, you can use fabric to decorate the walls. Attaching Velcro strips to the top of the back wall, you can easily attach Velcro to whatever color fabric you want to add or remove as you please. Velcro can be sewn to fabric panels or it can be glued or stuck to fabric panels, too. Adding fabric to a closet wall will soften the way that your closet looks and feels which can make you enjoy your time putting away your clothes.

Storage Accessories

If you have a lot of jewelry, scarves, or shoes, you can decorate your closets with useful items that will help keep your life better organized. Some buy old screened windows to hang their earrings from, but they do not want those old screens on their walls – but the closet is a perfectly good place for them. Homeowners can also add other useful space savers and organizers to the walls in their closets so that their rooms are freer from clutter. Hanging shoe racks save a lot of information, but if you do not want them hanging from your doors, you can even attach them to the walls of your closets, too.

Adding Vintage Clothes to Your Closet

Shopping for vintage clothing takes a lot of patience and a little bit of luck. When you begin your adventure
shopping for vintage clothes, it easy is to become quickly overwhelmed. However, when you know where to begin and what to look for, shopping for vintage clothes can actually become an exciting treasure hunt of an adventure. Whether you browse the racks at your local thrift store or you hit the auction sites, here are a few tips to make your vintage shopping more successful:

1.    Know that sizes are different. In the world of vintage clothes, sizes are completely different than the sizes are today. Do not feel bad if a dress in size 12 fits you, but you normally wear a size 6. Women’s clothing was sized smaller than it is today and many women would have their clothing tailored to fit. If you cannot try on clothes, bring a tape measure or learn how to use your hand to measure.

2.    Look closely: When you shop for vintage clothes, it is important to remember that there are often unseen flaws. You might fall in love with a gorgeous necklace in the shop, but when you get it home, you notice that gems are missing. It is also a good idea to hold fabrics up to the light to see if there are any holes; look near the seams and in the front because belt buckles often will create holes that you cannot see until you put on a top.

3.     Buy what you like. You will enjoy shopping for vintage clothes when you buy the pieces that you like. If you are not into handbags, buying a vintage handbag will not make you start liking handbags. If you do not enjoy wearing jeans, buying vintage Levi’s probably will not change your mind about wearing jeans. When you buy what you like, you will wear it and feel good about yourself.

4.     Don’t take your children. Shopping for vintage clothes takes time and if you have to watch your children, your shopping experience will not go well. You need to have time to explore and dig into the racks and boxes.

5.    Look for possibilities.  Remember that not every item of clothing looks good on the rack. Many vintage items look great when you put them on and some will need accessorizing. It is amazing what a great pair of leggings. Consider your closet and what you have that could make a vintage piece pop.

6.    Know the brands. When you begin your vintage shopping adventures, you will not recognize many brands. As you continue to learn, you will begin to recognize brands that you like. You will also begin to recognize whether a piece really is vintage or not, just by the fabrics and the tags. Many vintage brands are no longer around, so it is a good idea to bring your smartphone with you while you are shopping so you can investigate the brands from decades ago. Also remember that many women made their own clothes, so you might see clothes that do not have labels at all. If you choose what you like, the brand will not really matter much at all.

Organize your Clothes to Simplify your Closet

A well-organized closet makes life so much easier. From the getting ready in morning to putting away laundry, a closet stocked with all of the necessary storage accessories and proper hangers makes everything relating to clothing and accessories more accessible. At MawaHangers.com we have all of the hangers you will ever need to properly organize your clothes to simplify your closet and your life.

Grippy Hangers Are Our Speciality

We are known for selling hangers with clean lines and grippy material. We know that too many hangers are not designed well, so clothes get strange creases and they often fall onto the floor. Our hangers keep clothes on the hanger and off of the floor because they are coated in a non-stick material. Even your slippery silk or wide boat neck tops will stay put because our hangers are designed to fit your clothes and keep them in place.

Popular Accessory Hangers

Some of our most popular styles are the accessory hangers. Many people are lost as to how to store their accessories, like neck ties, scarves, and belts, so they tend to leave them scattered around their rooms and closets. At MawaHangers.com, we have accessory hangers that are designed to maximize your closet space. We sell an unusual hanger with a large, rounded base that is perfect for storing belts, bags, necklaces, or even infinity scarves. We also sell a necktie hanger that holds at least 16 neckties in place without creasing or letting them fall to the ground. Our one-piece belt or jewelry hanger has eight hooks so your accessories remain free of tangles. If you need grippy clips, we have some with hangers and some without so you can use them anywhere you need to, even if you want to hang your wet bathing suits and towels.

Smaller Children’s Versions

Children’s clothes have become more expensive than ever before, but children’s hangers are not designed to keep those clothes up off of the floor. MawaHangers.com has taken care of this problem by creating a smaller version of the grippy hanger for the smaller shoulders of children’s clothes. The children’s hanger has the EuroCurve so keep clothes from getting strange bumps in the shoulders and the smaller length makes it easy to hang up your children’s clothes, too.

Pretty in Pink

Our line of pink hangers can make any closet look more feminine. Our customers enjoy the fact that we sell all of our favorite hangers in chrome with the pink non-stick coating to keep even the slipperiest of fabrics from falling off of the hangers.

Heavy Duty Coats

If you are looking to outfit a coat closet with hangers that will not bend or break, our heavy duty chrome hanger is perfect for the job. This hanger is designed to hold the heaviest wool coats and it even has the grippy, non-stick coating to keep the coats on the hangers.

Perfect Pant Hangers

Our pants and skirt hangers are some of the most impressive in the industry. They are designed to keep pants free of unwanted creases and to prevent pants and skirts from falling. Even though some of our hangers may look like they will teeter and totter on the closet pole, they are designed to be perfectly balanced. Our European engineering has created the KH hangers, which not only look good, but do not teeter on the pole.

The Best Closets in Film

Fashionistas everywhere love a good closet and every now and then a closet appears in a movie that is
completely drool-worthy. These closets are perfectly organized, full of amazing clothes, and big enough to live in. These are a few of the closets that would make any fashion lover proud:

Sex in the City: Carrie Bradshaw’s Closet

While the Carrie Bradshaw’s closet in the television show was full of amazing clothes and shoes, the closet that she gets in the movie was even better. When Carrie and Mr. Big toured the apartment that they would eventually share together, the closets were tiny and cramped. But, when the movie ended and Big surprised her with the shoes and the closet, every Carrie fan in the theater gasped in amazement. Just knowing that closet exists somewhere in the world is enough to deliver sweet dreams to fashion lovers!

Clueless: Cher Horowitz

The moment that Cher used her computerized outfit picker, everyone who loved fashion knew that this movie was going to be memorable. Her ultra-organized closet, with the rotating mechanisms and color-matched clothes, made teenage girls and adult women swoon. This closet set a new standard for fashion lovers all over the world. Cher was an awesome character just by herself, but that closet made every girl want to be her even more.

Overboard: Joanna Stayton

The uppity Mrs. Stayton showed her overly critical nature while Dean Proffitt worked on her ultra-exclusive closet. While this is not the biggest and most impressive closet ever seen on the big screen, the fact that this enviable room was installed on a yacht is what made it truly memorable.

The Devil Wears Prada: Vogue’s Fashion Closet

Even though this closet does not belong to a single woman, it is still enviable. The designer samples are to die for and the fact that staffers can simply walk in to try on one-of-a-kind shoes is probably the best perk in any job anywhere. It is challenging to forget about this closet, simply because this closet actually exists in the secret world of Vogue Magazine.

13 Going on 30: Jenna Rink

This movie is absolutely adorable and so is the closet. During a montage of amazing 80’s songs, movie goers get to see the closet that belongs to Ms. Rink. This closet is full of shoes organized in rainbow order, perfectly organized totes, and coordinating wooden hangers. This is the perfect closet, filled with perfect clothes and accessories.

Gossip Girl: Blair Waldorf

Not only is the closet immaculate, but the designer labels that fill it are of the finest quality. Blair Waldorf has the best style and it is easy to see why she always looked so great – because her closet is as flawless as her look. Any woman would look that put-together if she had a closet that looked like that!

Twilight Breaking Dawn #2: Bella

Wow! Not only did she get to marry the hot vampire, but she also got one hot closet. From the sexy lighting to the comfortable seating, Bella’s closet looks good enough to live in. There is nothing wrong with moving in with the Cullens and their stylish interior décor. If only Bella loved fashion as much as her new sister-in-law, Alice does.

Protect Your Clothes by Using the Proper Hangers

Sure, you can use the free hangers that come with your dry cleaning or the ones that come with the clothes that you buy, but these clothes hangers are not designed to protect your clothes, they are just designed to hang your clothes. It is rather easy to properly store your expensive clothes; you only need to buy good hangers.

Men who buy good hangers will have suits that last a long time. Having a hanger that resembles the human body will keep suit coats in their proper shape. When men buy the best hangers, their suits will last for many years and their shirts will not lose their shoulder shapes.

Suit Hangers

There are a few different styles of hangers and they all have different jobs to do. The first style of hanger is the suit hanger where there are two pieces designed to hang a suit coat and pants. The suit coat hanger should be contoured to match the lines of the shoulder and have a slight flare near the ends. The pants bar should be designed not to crease the pant that rest across it. If the coat hanger is too wide or not wide enough, it can permanently damage the shoulder structure of the coat.

Jacket Hangers

A similar style of hanger is the jacket hanger. This is similar to the suit hanger, but without the pants bar. These hangers are used for coat closets or for sport coats. Again, these hangers need to have contours toward the ends of the shoulders to keep the seams in line and the padding in place.

Pants Hangers

The pants hanger is also an important part of any man’s or woman’s closet. These hangers have a bar that will keep your pants from creasing. There are a few different ways to keep pants look great and there are a few ways to destroy clothing faster. The felted or sticky bar will keep pants uncreased; but if you have to use clamping hangers too often, they will stretch out the fabric. If you plan to use clips to hold your pants in place, be sure that you are using them with a heavy fabric like denim instead of a fine fabric like linen, because the fine fabric can be stretched out of shape by the clip.

Accessories Hangers

When you need to hang up your accessories, there are a few different styles of hangers that will work. The first is a tie hanger. Tie hangers have small bars that ties can hang over so that they can all be seen and they all stay off of the floor. Another useful style of hanger is one designed specifically for belts. A belt hanger usually has pegs or hooks that belts can hang over to keep them from falling on the floor. There are also accessory hangers that are versatile enough to handle a several purses, scarves, or necklaces because the big looping piece below the hanger.

Having the proper hanger for the job you need done is important to keeping your clothing and accessories in line. The high quality hangers from Mawa Hangers will meet all of your clothing needs.

Send Them to the Local Cleaners

When you need your finest clothes cared for, the local dry cleaners is the best place to take them. There are many fine fabrics like silk, wool, and rayon that require the care that only commercial dry cleaning professionals can provide. Instead of ruining your clothes by trying to wash them in your home washer and dryer, read the labels and follow the manufacturers’ instructions. Using the local dry cleaner will actually save you money in the long run because you will not have to replace your fine, expensive clothing very often.

Nothing Dry About It

Calling dry cleaning ‘dry’ is a complete misnomer, because there is really nothing dry about it. The only thing that causes the word ‘dry’ to appear in the title is that the liquid that is used does not contain any water. Dry cleaning solution is known throughout the industry as a liquid called ‘perc’ – which is the short form of a long scientific name. Before perc was used, dry cleaners used solvents like kerosene, which was the first dry cleaning product that was discovered by accident in 1855. Dry cleaners were known for using highly toxic and flammable materials until perc was created; with perc, dry cleaners need less equipment and they can get clothes cleaned faster than before it was available to the industry.

Necessary Steps

When you drop off your clothing for a dry cleaning visit, there are a few steps that the dry cleaning clerk will perform. They include inspecting and tagging the clothes; this is when the clerk will ask you if there is anything wrong with the clothes and it is important that you show any of the flaws like stains and small holes. If you do not show the flaws they might not get repaired or cleaned properly. If you think about all of the clothes that pass through a dry cleaning business, it is likely that those doing the cleaning might miss something.

Once you have your clothes tagged and inspected, your clothes will be pretreated so get the stains out. Then, the clothes are put through the official dry cleaning process, where they are put in a machine with the dry cleaning solution. If the cleaners notice that there are still spots remaining, they will work on them by hand with a stain-removal liquid. Finally, the clothes will then be prepared to send home with you. Your clothes will be pressed and folded, so they look like new.

How to Help

There are a few things that you can do to keep your costs low and your turn around time quick. As soon as you notice a stain, work on pretreating it before you bring it to the cleaners. It is also important to mark where the stains are with a safety pin or paperclip. If you can show the cleaners where the problems are, they will be able to work on it instead of having to hunt for the problem. If you want to pretreat the stain but you are not sure how best to approach it, you can always call your dry cleaner and ask for advice.

Dry Cleaning Your Clothes: Part One – Do It Yourself at Home

When you have fine items of clothing that need to be dry cleaned, you have two choices of how to best care for your garments. For several years, manufacturers have been producing do-it-yourself dry cleaning kits that work inside of clothes driers. These kits are easy to use and they also have stain fighting capabilities.

However, the neighborhood dry cleaner is still a good choice because they have all of the proper gadgets to keep your clothes clean and to repair small problems, too.

While there are many people who avoid buying clothes that need to be dry cleaned, it is challenging to avoid dry-clean-only clothes completely. Many items of clothing, like scarves, men’s ties, wool coats, and rayon or silk tops and dresses, need to be dry cleaned and now you can do this from the convenience of your home for much less than it costs to take your clothing to a dry cleaner.

When you dry clean your clothes at home, you will need to buy a special kit. There are three brands that work well: Dryel, FreshCare, and Custom Cleaner. They all work relatively the same by using three components that do not contain the harsh chemicals that dry cleaners use. Those components include a stain remover, a heat-activated cloth, and a dryer bag.

Most people will use the stain treatment before they put the clothes in the bag. Using the home dry cleaning product means that you need to know what the stains are on your clothes, because there are some stains that require certain products for removal. Dry cleaning kits are best at handling very small stains because the kits do not include the really strong stuff.

Once you have worked on removing the stain, your clothing is then ready for the dryer. Each dry cleaning kit comes with a reusable bag that seals with Velcro and keeps the items of clothing inside. Most dryer bags can only hold about five or fewer items. You will need to put a dryer cloth in the bag along with the clothes and the heat will force the cloth to release some steam and a fragrance that is reminiscent of the dry cleaning smell. The steam from the cloth will remove wrinkles; otherwise, the dryer clothes do very little else.

When you have used the bag so many times that it gets holes, you should throw the bag away. The bag is designed to keep the dry heat away from your clothes so that they do not shrink. It is also very important to remove the clothes as soon as the dryer cycle is finished, so that they remain wrinkle-free long after the home dry cleaning cycle is finished.

Home dry cleaning is best if you simply need to refresh your clothes or remove a very small stain. If you really want to get your clothes as clean as they were when you bought them, a professional dry cleaner is the only choice to make. They have the gadgets to press your clothes properly and cleaning solutions that will remove stains.

Our hangers will not add unwanted clutter to a contemporary home, especially because they seem almost like art themselves.

To add to the beauty of having your own closet personally designed for your clothing needs, you can also hire someone to manage your closet. Some people have so many clothes that they cannot keep track of them all, so they hire a closet manager. The closet manager does not help with clothes each day, but will help when it comes time to buy new clothing and accessories or when it comes time to attend a special event that requires a unique outfit with special accessories and shoes.

Set Your Budget

If you want to redesign your closet, you can set any budget that will work for you. There are many manufacturers that create adjustable and easy-to-install pieces that do-it-yourselfers have an easy time working with. If you know how to work with a few power tools and you can follow directions, you can most likely install your own closet components in a few hours over the course of one weekend. You will certainly need to measure the space that you have to be sure that you cut everything to fit so you do not waste your money and time.

Create More Efficient Morning Routines

Once you have a closet that will fit your lifestyle and budget, you will find that your mornings are easier to manage because you will not have to dig for the perfect outfit to wear to work. You will have clothes that last longer, because they will have space to allow air to flow in and out of the textile fibers. You might even end up enjoying putting away your laundry because your closet will be your very own special place.

It does not matter if you have a huge walk-in closet or a small double-door closet, having an organized space will improve the quality. Being able to see your clothes, shoes, handbags, and accessories will make it easier to get ready for work each day.
